Forensic psychiatry in the Scottish print media 1997-2017 University of Aberdeen Past award Student: Rowan Ah-See : University of Edinburgh Year Award Started: 2017 This project aims to explore in detail the attitudes towards forensic psychiatry portrayed in the Scottish print media over the past 20 years. Work by charities such as See Me, Mind and Rethink Mental Illness have sought to address and minimize stigma in mental health in recent years, and yet negative attitudes toward forensic patients prevail. Public attitudes towards psychiatry influenced by media reporting may lead to discrimination and marginalization of patients. Research area: Neurological conditions (including stroke) Supervisors: Dr Daniel Bennett Department of Psychiatry Back to all awards
