Investigation of the beneficial metabolic effects of dietary fibre fed to laboratory rats University of Aberdeen Past award Student: Paula Lilkova : University of Aberdeen Year Award Started: 2017 With the current obesity epidemic in mind, our interest is in identifying mechanisms of improving satiety and understanding signalling mechanism involved in body weight regulation that might help combat this worldwide problem. Food-gut-brain signalling is very important in this regard. We have performed animal experiments where macronutrient (fat, protein or carbohydrate) levels have been manipulated. This project will investigate mechanisms behind potential metabolic benefits from added soluble dietary fibre in laboratory rats.
