Quantification of cardiac fibrosis by stain-free histology in obese insulin resistant mice University of Dundee Past award Student: Samyukta Ravisankar : University of Dundee Year Award Started: 2017 Diabetes and heart failure (HF) often coexist and affect each other on outcome. This relationship extends to insulin resistance, a condition where cells fail to respond normally to the hormone insulin, therefore increasing blood glucose and developing diabetes. Insulin resistance in the heart is a major contributing factor to HF. How this happens remains unknown. One idea is that it is due to increased accumulation of structural molecules outside the heart cells, termed fibrosis. In this current study, we will explore new methods to quantify fibrosis using multiphoton scanning by the state-of-the-art Genesis Imaging System by collaborating with Clinnovate Health.
