Medical Research Scotland Academy 2025

The Medical Research Scotland Academy is an interactive online learning series for S4, S5 and S6 pupils across Scotland.

The event aims to inspire pupils who are considering pursuing STEM subjects in their future education and career. The virtual series is an opportunity to hear from medical researchers, scientists, and industry leaders to learn more about their medical breakthroughs and personal career journeys. Across the series, a variety of fields are delved into such as physiology, microbiology, bioengineering and much more to share the true spectrum of roles available.

Week 1 – Friday 7 March 2025

For week one you will hear from Professor Derek Scott, Chair in Physiology & Pharmacology Education, University of Aberdeen who will discuss why not all scientists wear lab coats and Celia Rodriguez, 4th year MRS PhD student, University of Aberdeen, will be demonstrating how the lab is fighting back against breast cancer.

Week 2 – Friday 14 March 2025 
For the Medical Research Scotland Academy week two, you will hear from Professor Helen Bridle, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, Heriot-Watt University about micro engineering for medical research and Craig Tumblety, 4th year PhD Student, University of Glasgow will be sharing research from his lab about physical activity and health.
