Meet the Researcher Showcase 2025

Over 200 Senior 4, 5 and 6 pupils from 16 schools swapped textbooks for test tubes as they attended our biggest and most exciting Meet the Researchers Showcase event at the Technology Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde.

The event featured career talks, interactive science activities, and scientific poster presentations designed to showcase the breadth and depth of Scotland’s medical research talent.

Beginning with presentations from industry experts including our Chair and Board of Trustees member, Professor Heather Wallace, Dr Samantha Pitt, Reader and Head of the Cellular Medicine Research Division at the University of St Andrews and Dr Keith Goatman, Principal Scientist at Canon Medical Research Europe, the pupils had the opportunity to learn more about science and the career journey into medical research.

Coming from across the country, pupils also met students and lecturers from leading Scottish universities as well as being challenged to put their science skills to the test across over twenty fun and interactive science demonstrations. Many of the young scientists the pupils met are studying at Scottish universities, thanks to funding from Medical Research Scotland.

Professor Heather Wallace, Chair of Medical Research Scotland, said: “Today’s event is about opening doors for the school pupils attending – helping them see that a career in medical science is exciting and deeply rewarding.

“Our mission at Medical Research Scotland is to support the next generation of medical researchers, and we are incredibly proud of the talented individuals who have represented our work here today.”
