Mr Michael Turner

Trustee and Member of the Audit and Investment Committee

I recently retired from working as an Investment Manager for almost 40 years, latterly with Aberdeen PLC where I oversaw the management of investment portfolios for a range of institutions, including charities and endowments involved in the secondary and tertiary education sector. Specifically, the earnings from these endowment investments supported scholarships and bursaries, chairs, professorships, fellowships, PhD research, as well as academic and public service programs.

I currently participate in PhD research programs within the Psychology department at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences. This has raised my awareness of the importance of post graduate research at Scottish Universities as this School’s research is highly regarded in its sphere, and needs to strive to maintain its reputation. These efforts and family involvement in practicing psychotherapy, are what inspired me to join Medical Research Scotland with its funding of research into clinical health, since it includes the interplay between physical and psychological well-being.

In addition to Medical Research Scotland, I have extensive experience in the governance of trusts as a trustee for several pension schemes.
